Lakshya 2025: Intercollege Sports Festival

The spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie came alive at K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy as the college hosted its first-ever intercollegiate sports festival, Lakshya 2025, from 5th to 9th October 2025. The much-awaited event was unveiled on 1st October by Mr Aazaz Khan, Director of Somaiya Sports Academy, setting the tone for an action-packed week ahead.

Lakshya 2025 featured three major events — a Community Run, Football Tournament (for boys and girls), and Box Cricket. The festival aimed to encourage physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students while building connections across colleges in Mumbai.

The celebrations kicked off with the Community Run on 5th October, which witnessed an impressive turnout of 150 participants. The 3 km run around the Ayurvihar campus brought together students, faculty, and members of the local community in a vibrant display of enthusiasm and unity.

The Football Tournament, held on 4th and 5th October, saw intense competition among 14 boys’ teams and 5 girls’ teams from physiotherapy and medical colleges across Mumbai. Every match showcased a blend of skill, teamwork, and passion, with crowds cheering their favourites from the sidelines. MGM College of Physiotherapy clinched the title in the boys’ category, while the K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy girls’ team emerged victorious in their division.

Adding more excitement to the festival, Box Cricket was held on 8th and 9th October. With six teams participating, the matches were filled with energy and suspense till the very end. The K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy team lifted the trophy, marking a proud moment for the hosts.

The closing ceremony was graced by eminent dignitaries — Shri Samir Somaiya, Chairman of Somaiya Trust and Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University; Mrs Amrita Somaiya; Lt. Gen. H S Kahlon, Secretary of Somaiya Trust; Mr Aazaz Khan, Director of Somaiya Sports Academy; and Prof Ajay Kapoor, Vice Chancellor Designate of Somaiya Vidyavihar University. They felicitated the winners with trophies and medals, appreciating their performances and sportsmanship.

The event was supported by sponsors Physioconcepts and Vision International. Behind the success of Lakshya 2025 was the dedication and teamwork of the Sports Secretaries — Yashraj Prasad, Neetika Shah, Dev Sardar, Satvat Gadde, and Soorya Pillai — who worked tirelessly alongside faculty coordinators Dr Priti Mehendale and Dr Meghana Chavan (PT). Their efforts, coupled with the guidance and encouragement of Principal Dr Shweta Manwadkar (PT) and the unwavering support of the management, turned Lakshya 2025 into a landmark event for the college.

What began as an idea to celebrate sports and fitness has now become a milestone for the institution. Lakshya 2025 not only showcased athletic excellence but also strengthened the sense of unity, passion, and perseverance that lies at the heart of Somaiya’s ethos — inspiring students to aim higher, both on and off the field.
