Somaiya Vidyavihar University recently inaugurated a cutting-edge Gait & Motion Analysis Lab at K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy (KJSCPT) in collaboration with K J Somaiya School of Engineering (KJSSE). KJSCPT is the one of the college under the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) to establish such state of art facility making this a valuable initiative in integrating advanced biomechanical analysis with healthcare and research.
Inaugurated by Dr. Taral Nagda, Senior Consultant Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director, Jupiter Gait Lab. The lab facility will enable precision diagnostics and personalized treatment planning for individuals with movement disorders, enhancing patient outcomes and physiotherapy research. The initiative has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of experts in the field, including Dr. Ajay Pratap Thakker, Chairman & MD, Jupiter Hospital, Thane, and the team at Jupiter Gait Lab, whose guidance and support have been instrumental in bringing this project to life.
“The Gait & Motion Analysis Lab is poised to become a key player in improving patient care, aiding in the development of personalized rehabilitation strategies, and providing valuable data for ongoing research in physiotherapy and related fields,” said Dr. Taral Nagda, Director, Jupiter Gait Lab.
The inauguration featured a live demonstration of gait analysis, showcasing how state-of-the-art equipment can accurately assess movement patterns, benefiting physiotherapists, sports scientists, neurologists, and engineers.
By advancing biomechanics and gait analysis, the lab will aid in diagnosing movement disorders, optimizing rehabilitation, and improving patient recovery. It will also contribute to ergonomics, workplace safety, and innovations in robotics and prosthetics. The lab’s impact extends into virtual and augmented reality applications, human-computer interaction, and even animal motion studies.
“As the lab opens its doors, the vision for the future is clear: to enhance the quality of healthcare services through research-driven insights, to foster collaboration across all disciplines, and to continue improving patient outcomes through technological innovation,” said Shri Samir Somaiya, Chancellor of Somaiya Vidyavihar University.
With the launch of the Gait & Motion Analysis Lab, Somaiya Vidyavihar University strengthens its position as a leader in interdisciplinary education and research, pushing the boundaries of healthcare and engineering to create impactful solutions for the future.
