Here’s the thing. Winning across multiple categories at a demanding inter-institution event is never accidental. It comes from talent, preparation, and students who are willing to put themselves out there. That’s exactly what K J Somaiya Junior College of Science and Commerce proved at LEAF 3.0, held at IIT Campus School and Junior College, Powai, from 13 to 15 November 2025. The college walked away with nine prizes, cutting across literary, creative, and performing arts.
Let’s break it down by category
In Poetry Recitation, Aarya Borge (SYJC-D) secured the Second Prize. Her performance balanced clarity, rhythm, and expression — a combination that always stands out in this category.
The Elocution segment brought two strong wins. Haleema Khan (SYJC-D) earned a Consolation Prize in English Elocution, while Om Yendhe (FYJC-J) took the Second Prize in Marathi Elocution. Elocution is about presence as much as delivery, and both students held their ground with confidence.
Creative Writing turned out to be one of the college’s strongest showings. Sakshi Maurya (FYJC-D) won the Second Prize, while Tuba Shaikh (FYJC-E) and Gargi Mhaskar (FYJC-B) earned Consolation Prizes. This category, especially in the open format where even IIT faculty can participate, is highly competitive. Having all three students from the college place speaks volumes about their originality and command over language.
The standout performance of the festival came from Manashri Shigvan (FYJC-G), who clinched the First Prize in Mono Acting on 14 November. Mono Acting demands intensity, control, and the ability to hold an entire room alone. Her win was widely appreciated and became one of the most remarkable achievements for the team.
Visual storytelling also brought recognition. Suhani Sankhe (SYJC-I) earned a Consolation Prize in Still Photography for her thoughtful capture. In Short Film Making, Deepesh Mudliyar (FYJC-G) and his group secured a Consolation Prize — a testament to their teamwork and creative eye.
What this really means is that the college showed strength across every form of expression: spoken word, written word, theatre, and visual media. These nine prizes reflect not just individual brilliance but a culture that encourages students to explore, take risks, and think creatively. K J Somaiya Junior College of Science and Commerce didn’t just participate at LEAF 3.0 — it made its presence felt.
