The Department of Computer Engineering at K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT) organised a six-day ISTE-approved Faculty Development Programme (FDP) titled “Faculty Excellence: Integrating Skills, Emotional Intelligence and Innovation in Education” from 17th to 22nd November 2025, in collaboration with IET, Mumbai Local Network. The programme was conducted under the aegis of Dr Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal, KJSIT, and convened by Dr Sarita Ambadekar, Head, Department of Computer Engineering .
The FDP was designed to address the evolving role of educators in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It aimed to strengthen teaching effectiveness by integrating critical thinking, emotional intelligence, professional skills, and innovative pedagogies, while fostering meaningful teacher–student engagement and holistic wellbeing.
The programme commenced on 17th November with an inaugural address by Dr Rakesh G Mote, Professor, IIT Bombay. In his address, Dr Mote highlighted the importance of lifelong learning and critical thinking as essential attributes for educators in a rapidly changing academic landscape. He subsequently delivered a session on Critical Thinking Support for NEP, where he discussed inquiry-based learning, project-driven approaches, and reflective problem-solving as tools to align teaching practices with NEP objectives.
The inaugural day also featured a session by Dr Dhananjay Mankar, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, on The Transformative Vision of NEP 2020. He emphasised learner-centric education, multidisciplinary flexibility, outcome-based learning, and the integration of skill-oriented education to prepare students for future challenges. The day concluded with an interactive session on Teamwork and Collaboration by Ms Smriti Gulwady, CEO of Sanmour, who highlighted collaborative classroom practices and conducted team-based activities to demonstrate the value of cooperation in learning environments.
On 18th November, the focus shifted to professional skills and employability. Mr Rajendra Biniwale, Career Counsellor and Coach, Pune, conducted sessions on Negotiation Skills and Increased Student Employability. Through role plays and practical examples, participants gained insights into effective communication, conflict resolution, and preparing students for industry expectations. The day concluded with Mr Koustubh Wagh’s session on Motivation and Mindset, which explored strategies for helping students set meaningful goals and sustain motivation.

The third day, 19th November, addressed future readiness and communication skills. Ms Snehalata Deshmukh, CHRO and Data Protection Officer, Naval Group India Pvt Ltd, spoke on aligning curriculum with future skill demands, stressing adaptability, creativity, and digital literacy. This was followed by Mr Pratik Gupta’s session on professional development, which encouraged faculty to reflect on continuous learning, emotional balance, and personal growth. Dr Madhavi Gokhale concluded the day with a session on effective communication, highlighting clarity, active listening, and engaging lecture delivery.
A distinctive component of the FDP was the full-day field visit on 20th November to Ramakrishna Mission Math, Khar, Mumbai. The visit provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on value-based education, discipline, and inner growth. Interactions with monks and educators underscored the relevance of ethics, compassion, and holistic development in contemporary education.
The sessions on 21st November focused on emotional intelligence and leadership. Dr Vivek Sunnapwar delivered a session on enhancing teacher–student relationships through empathy and open communication. This was followed by Dr Shubhangi Dere and Dr Deepak Dere, who discussed compassionate communication and its role in creating supportive academic environments. The day concluded with Prof Usha Nair’s session on leadership skills, emphasising that leadership is integral to every educator’s role beyond administrative responsibilities.
The FDP concluded on 22nd November with sessions on innovation and classroom management. Dr Archana Upadhya, Associate Professor, H K College of Pharmacy, introduced innovative teaching-learning practices such as flipped classrooms, blended learning, and gamified assessments. The final session by Dr Rajani Mathur, Faculty, BVIMSR, focused on effective classroom management strategies to encourage participation and maintain positive learning environments.
The valedictory session marked the successful conclusion of the FDP, with participants sharing feedback and reflections. Certificates were distributed, and the programme was widely appreciated for its balanced focus on skills, emotional intelligence, innovation, and values. The FDP reinforced KJSIT’s commitment to faculty development and excellence in higher education.
