Students of K J Somaiya Polytechnic have once again demonstrated excellence beyond the classroom, securing remarkable achievements in state-level sports competitions. The institute’s badminton team and a weightlifting champion brought pride to the campus through their outstanding performances at tournaments.
Badminton Team Clinches State-Level Victory
he girls’ badminton team delivered an impressive performance at the state-level tournament organised at Shri Vitthal Education & Research Institute Polytechnic in Pandharpur. Their victory reflects months of disciplined practice, teamwork, and determination.
The winning team included:
- Ms Aayushi Dileepkumar Tiwari, First Year Diploma in Industrial Electronics Engineering
- Ms Sehar Siddique, Third Year Computer Engineering
- Ms Kimaya Savita Shree, First Year Computer Engineering
- Ms Sneha Virendra Bhanushali, First Year Computer Engineering
Speaking about the achievement, Aayushi Tiwari described the victory as an unforgettable moment for the entire team. She shared that years of dedication and practice finally paid off when they secured the title. Having played badminton for nearly five years, she says the sport attracted her because of its fast pace and the way it strengthens both physical fitness and mental focus.
Preparation for the tournament involved regular practice sessions, fitness training, and strategic planning. According to Aayushi, one of the toughest moments came during the semi-final match, where the team faced experienced and aggressive opponents. Maintaining strong coordination and communication on court helped the players stay confident and perform under pressure.
The team received professional coaching and training support under Ms Dhanashree Ganesh Kamble, whose guidance played a key role in sharpening their skills and match strategies. Facilities and structured training through the Somaiya sports ecosystem also helped the students build stamina and competitive readiness.
Balancing academics and sports can often be challenging for students competing at such levels. However, institutional support made the journey smoother. Faculty members and academic leaders ensured flexibility in schedules so that students could manage both their academic commitments and sporting ambitions effectively.
Weightlifting Champion Secures State-Level Title
Adding to the institute’s achievements, Shreeraj Uttam Bodke, a Second Year Computer Engineering student, secured victory at the state-level weightlifting competition conducted during the IEDSSA Tournament held at Samarth Institute of Pharmacy, Belhe.
Reflecting on his victory, Shreeraj credited the unwavering encouragement of his mentors and coaches. He acknowledged the efforts of his coach Mr Nitin Shinde, whose dedication and presence at the competition motivated him to perform at his best.
The toughest challenge during the competition came from strong lifters representing the D1 and A1 zones. Shreeraj stayed focused by concentrating on his technique, breathing, and precise execution of each lift rather than being distracted by the strength of his opponents.
His training routine involves early morning sessions, focusing on technical refinement of Olympic lifts such as the snatch and the clean and jerk. These sessions emphasise movement precision, timing, and stability rather than simply lifting heavier weights.
Looking ahead, Shreeraj has set an ambitious goal — representing India at the Olympic Games. For him, this state-level victory is only the beginning of a much larger journey in the world of competitive weightlifting.
A Culture of Sporting Excellence
These achievements highlight the growing culture of sports excellence within K J Somaiya Polytechnic. With dedicated coaching, supportive faculty, and determined student athletes, the institute continues to encourage holistic development by nurturing talent in both academics and athletics.
The accomplishments of the badminton team and Shreeraj Bodke stand as inspiring examples of perseverance, teamwork, and disciplined effort — qualities that define the spirit of Somaiya students.
