K J Somaiya Polytechnic witnessed a proud celebration of Maharashtra’s rich heritage through Durgotsav 2025 – Fort Model Making, organised by the Students’ Forum under the statewide initiative of the Maharashtra Government and ARTH, Pune.
The event paid tribute to the vision and engineering brilliance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, inspiring students to explore the architectural and cultural significance of Maharashtra’s iconic forts.
Students across departments teamed up to recreate detailed models of twelve historic forts, including Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Sinhagad, Lohagad, Vijaydurg, and Shivneri. Using sustainable materials, the models reflected the intricate layout of bastions, gateways, and landscapes, showcasing the students’ creativity and craftsmanship.
Principal Mrs Padmajabhanu Bandaru commended the initiative, urging students to uphold the spirit of “Apala Durg – Apala Abhiman” (Our Fort, Our Pride). Faculty coordinators Shri N P Chaudhari and Mrs Archana Wasule guided participants throughout, while Mr Ashokkumar Yadav, Chairperson of the Students’ Forum, appreciated their dedication and teamwork.
The campus buzzed with energy as students combined history, art, and engineering to bring the forts to life. The initiative encouraged research into fort architecture, defence strategies, and construction methods—transforming the activity into a powerful blend of learning and cultural appreciation.
The event concluded on a note of unity and pride, reaffirming Somaiya Polytechnic’s commitment to holistic education that nurtures creativity, cultural awareness, and national identity.
