ATAL-Funded FDP on Cybersecurity

K J Somaiya Institute of Technology (KJSIT), Mumbai, an esteemed autonomous engineering institute in Mumbai inaugurated a 6-day offline Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Fortifying the Digital Frontier: Cybersecurity Strategies for Threat Landscapes” from 30th June 2025 to 5th July, 2025. The event, funded by the AICTE under the ATAL Academy scheme, is being hosted by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI-DS).

The inaugural ceremony witnessed an inspiring keynote address by Major Krishan V. (Retd.), the esteemed Chief Guest of the event. With a distinguished career in defense and cybersecurity, Major Krishan V. emphasized the importance of cultivating national cyber awareness, understanding the evolving nature of digital threats, and promoting cybersecurity resilience in educational institutions. He highlighted that in an era dominated by technology, cybersecurity is not just a technical field but a vital national priority. His motivational speech set the tone for the weeklong program, inspiring the participating faculty to become catalysts of change in their respective institutions.

The programme has drawn enthusiastic participation from over 50 faculty delegates and researchers across Mumbai, representing various AICTE-approved institutions. The FDP is designed to provide in-depth exposure to cutting-edge cybersecurity strategies, techniques, and tools with the objective of enabling faculty members to integrate the latest industry practices and knowledge into their curriculum, research, and institutional practices.

The Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, which is organizing the programme, has meticulously curated the sessions to ensure a comprehensive learning experience. The sessions include interactive lectures, live demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on workshops covering critical cybersecurity domains such as penetration testing, cybercrime investigation, network security, and emerging threat landscapes. The program is being coordinated by Dr. Milind Nemade, Professor and Head of the AI-DS Department, and Dr. Sheetal Jagtap, Assistant Professor, with the support of an efficient organizing team of faculty and staff from the department.

In his welcome address, Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, Principal KJSIT, acknowledged the significance of faculty development initiatives in enhancing institutional capacities and expressed gratitude to AICTE-ATAL for supporting the programme.

Throughout the six days, participants will gain exposure not only to theoretical concepts but also to practical tools and real-world applications. One of the program highlights includes an industrial visit to a Cybersecurity and Fintech company, where participants will interact with professionals at a Security Operations Center (SOC). This visit aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry and provide participants with first-hand experience of cybersecurity implementation at the enterprise level.

The programme is expected to achieve key outcomes such as enhanced awareness of the cybersecurity threat landscape, practical know-how on cybersecurity defense tools, integration of cybersecurity into academic curricula, and development of research capabilities in this critical area.

The FDP reflects KJSIT’s dedication to nation-building through education, innovation, and technology, and marks another significant milestone in its journey towards empowering the academic community for a secure digital future.
