A group of students from Smt Sakarbai K Somaiya Junior College of Education, recently embarked on a three-day educational trip to Mahabaleshwar from 12th February to 14th February 2026, turning the scenic hill station into a classroom beyond campus walls. Around 50 students from the first and second year participated in the trip, accompanied by faculty members who ensured a safe and well planned experience.
The journey brought together learning, exploration, and shared moments among students who are themselves preparing to become educators. From enjoying the lush landscapes of Panchgani’s Table Land to discovering the local culture at Mahabaleshwar market and Mapro Garden, the students experienced the region’s natural beauty and vibrant local life firsthand.
One of the most enriching moments of the trip was the visit to Pratapgarh Fort, where students explored the historic site while learning about its role in regional history. With a guide explaining key events and stories connected to the fort, the experience transformed a sightseeing stop into a meaningful lesson in history and heritage.
Beyond the destinations themselves, the trip created space for interaction, reflection, and bonding. Activities and informal moments throughout the journey allowed students to connect with one another and with their teachers in a relaxed environment, strengthening the sense of community within the college.
For students training to become teachers, such experiences are especially valuable. Educational trips demonstrate how learning can extend beyond textbooks and classrooms. They encourage curiosity, observation, and cultural awareness while building confidence and independence. Experiencing places, stories, and communities directly also helps future educators appreciate the power of experiential learning in shaping young minds.

As the students returned to Mumbai with laughter, photographs, and shared memories, the trip stood as a reminder that some of the most lasting lessons come from stepping outside the classroom and engaging with the world itself.
