Young Researchers Win Best Paper Award at International Conference

Two students from the Department of Microbiology at K J Somaiya College of Science and Commerce have earned recognition at the 11th Multidisciplinary International Conference organised by Chandrabhan Sharma College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Powai, in collaboration with the University of Mumbai and the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, Hyderabad.

Ms Pushpa Chaudhary and Ms Srushti Pansare, both TYBSc Microbiology students, were awarded the Best Paper Award (First Prize) for their research presentation at the conference. The event brought together participants from several institutions who presented research across multiple scientific and interdisciplinary domains. The students’ work stood out for its scientific relevance, clarity of presentation, and research depth.

For their achievement, the students were presented with certificates along with a cash prize of ₹2,000. The recognition highlights the growing participation of undergraduate students in academic research and national and international scholarly platforms.

Further strengthening the achievement, the research paper has also been selected for publication in peer-reviewed and indexed journals, including the International Journal of Advance and Innovative Research and the International Journal of Drug Delivery Technologies, which is indexed in Scopus. Publication in such journals reflects the academic merit and relevance of the research undertaken by the students.

The project was guided by Ms Tarannoom Khan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology. Her mentorship played an important role in shaping the students’ research approach and preparing them for presenting their work at the conference.

This accomplishment reflects the Department of Microbiology’s continued emphasis on encouraging students to engage in meaningful research and to participate in academic forums beyond the classroom. Achievements such as these contribute to building a strong culture of inquiry, innovation, and scientific exploration among students.

The recognition adds to the department’s growing list of academic milestones and highlights the commitment of both students and faculty towards advancing research and scholarship.
