K J Somaiya Institute of Technology organized ‘Orientation Day’ for the newly admitted first year B. Tech students with a guidance talk on “Roadmap for Tomorrow’s Nation Builders” by IPS Dr. Ravinder Singal on 12th September 2026. The invited resource speaker, the multifaceted Iron Man IPS Dr. Ravinder Singal, Additional Director General of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau enthralled the audience with his signature style motivational address. Shri Samir Somaiya, President of Somaiya Vidyavhar, Dr. Vivek Sunnapwar, KJSIT Principal & Dr. Harsha Mishra, Head of Basic Sciences & Humanities also addressed the newly admitted students. The event was attended by 600 audiences who gained crucial insights on the roadmap towards building a successful career.

At the onset, Dr. Ravinder Singal extended congratulatory wishes to the newly admitted students for having secured admission into ‘Somaiya’ as one of the most reputed brands in technical education. Sharing his personal anecdote, he recalled his formative year’s journey in various capacities—hailing from a small village in Haryana, his journey from being a deputed as a ‘police officer’ to that of a ‘Top-Cop’, the multifaceted stalwart credited his family for his values, reminiscing on the profound inspiration he derived from his father, who with relentless dedication was promoted to the ranks of a deputy commissioner of police.

In the realm of academics, Dr. Singal underlined the prerequisite skills—concentration & focus as a defining game changer for optimizing success. As a follower of the practice, he stressed the ‘power of visualization’. With sustainable efforts, the mental imprints eventually enable realization of one’s dream. Correspondingly, he urged the young people to follow a path of righteousness—to side with the law with moral conduct. As a cautionary note, the super-cop counseled the lawbreakers on the perils of violating the law. With judicious use of freedom and adopting a rational approach, he urged young people to weigh the virtues and vices as a moral compass to be on an honorably guided path.

On the principled path of achieving success, Dr. Singal advocated young people to apply a steadfast approach with ethical integrity. He alerted to the risky side effects of ‘shortcuts’ that often result in jeopardizing one’s future. As a special appeal to the students lodged in hostels, he cautioned the young learners of the dilemma of peer pressure, substance abuse, narcotics that are damagingly impacting the younger generation. Dr. Singal appealed to parents, teachers and students to collaborate and have an open discussion and diffuse the stigma around sensitive issues. Especially to parents, he insisted on developing a vigilant approach and monitoring their ward’s sleeping pattern, eating habits, and washroom frequency, with a need to be a vigilant parent to avert disaster with timely action. He accentuated the proactive need to engage in ‘policing’ as a social responsibility and said that society needs to take collaborative action to minimize crime rates.

Dr. Singal addressed a poignant issue of the lack of civic sense that has been a menacing issue. Young people need to abide by the rules while avoiding road rage. A sensitization on mandatory use of a helmet, and refraining from substance abuse while driving were the issues addressed in detail.

For optimizing holistic health, he firmly quantified the guaranteed success sutra, “Health is more than wealth.” To navigate a balanced life, sports should be the foundation pillar. He urged the students to extensively use the Somaiya sports facilities, outdoor games that will be a positive reinforcement — adding to a strong mental resilience to overcome life’s failures. The super-cop shared a very inspirational anecdote of his disciplined athletic journey to clinch the Iron Man Medal.

On the ‘New Learning Pathways’, Dr. Singal elaborated on the implications of being an eternal learner. In order to keep up with the fast-paced AI-driven era, he advised the technical aspirants about the necessity to constantly upskill and sharpen knowledge. Quoting Steve Jobs, “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish,” he appealed to the tech-savvy gen z to share knowledge, to bridge the gap between the privileged and the vulnerable, to take up societal maneuvers to meaningfully contribute to our society.

Towards the close, the Top Cop elicited a pledge from the youth to be the ethically driven ‘Nation Builders of the Future’. As ideal citizens, young people should bear the hallmarks of moral conscientiousness, a strong social commitment to a secure society. The stalwart imparted the most compelling message: “to live up to parents’ dream with good character conduct. We create our own limits. You need to break the barriers & keep extending our limits, never to give up and be limitless,” Dr. Singal concluded the empowering discourse on an impactful note.

In the presidential address, Shri Samir Somaiya, President of Somaiya Vidyavihar, shared his anecdote. He fondly recalled the time, his quest to pursue an overseas education. As a traditional Indian, he shared the challenges he faced in the USA. At the college-life juncture, the President emphasized the crucial need to make genuine friends in life who will later act as the strong pillars in life’s journey. He also endorsed the views of Dr. Ravinder Singal, especially the necessity for parents to hold an open family conversation to address distressing issues. In addition, Shri Somaiya also offered pragmatic tips to overcome stressful situations. He urged young people to sign up for a sports routine that imbibes core discipline, music as therapy to heal and rejuvenate, with substantial inspirational quotes that were exemplified in his address.

Shri Samir Somaiya voiced a powerful appeal to the youth to hold a ‘collective dream for the upliftment of the underprivileged’, a fresh dawn when our country will witness an empowered society (ending his address by citing a Sanskrit sloka “Sarve Sukhina Santu, Sarve Santu Niramayah).

Dr. Harsh Misha, Head of the Basic Sciences & Humanities Department, commenced the orientation session by providing highlights on the key aspects of the academies in the calendar year. She also emphasized the protocol to be followed by the students in First Year.
